Quick answer: GSM describes fabric mass per square metre. A nominal 180 GSM fabric has more mass per unit area than a nominal 150 GSM fabric. That number alone does not establish breathability, strength, stretch or comfort. Compare the actual construction and a printed sample before choosing.
What the numbers mean

For an equal area of fabric, 180 GSM is 30 grams per square metre heavier than 150 GSM. That is 20 percent more mass relative to the 150 GSM option. It is not a statement that the complete jersey weighs 20 percent more: garment size, trim, placket layers and construction also contribute.
The supplier shorthand “150g” or “180g” should be written as a nominal weight and unit in the order specification. Confirm that the quotation means grams per square metre, and ask what variation is acceptable. A nominal product label is useful for comparison but is not an individual laboratory measurement.
Compare like with like first

InkSportPro offers three owner-confirmed 100% polyester options: 180g birdseye, 150g birdseye/pinhole and 150g straight-texture fabric. The owner describes the two birdseye versions as visually similar, with the 150g version thinner. A separate photograph of the 150g birdseye has not been supplied.
The most informative initial comparison is therefore the two birdseye samples at different weights. Comparing 180g birdseye with 150g straight-texture changes both weight and surface structure. If the samples feel different, the cause cannot be assigned to weight alone.
A practical selection table
| Buyer question | Useful check | Avoid assuming |
|---|---|---|
| Will it feel suitable in warm weather? | Wear a sample in similar conditions | Lower GSM guarantees better cooling |
| Will a white panel cover well? | Inspect the printed garment over the intended base layer | Heavier fabric is always opaque |
| Will the graphic remain clear? | Print the same artwork on both samples | All polyester surfaces reproduce detail identically |
| Will it survive the intended use? | Agree relevant material and garment tests | GSM is a durability rating |
Handle the samples under the same lighting. Compare the fabric relaxed and gently extended, then examine the assembled placket. A two-layer front opening can feel different from the main body even when both use the same base material.
Think about the whole uniform
A player may wear a base layer, and a club may use the same jersey for practice and games. Those choices affect comfort and the required fit. Ask players to test the intended combination instead of judging an unsewn swatch against bare skin.
Do not carry a jersey-fabric decision automatically over to baseball pants. Sliding, reinforcement and pant fit create separate requirements. Confirm which garments the proposed fabric is intended for, and which items are included in the quoted package.
Record the decision so it can be repeated
Keep the supplier’s fabric reference, nominal GSM, composition, sample date and approved print together. A note saying only “lightweight polyester” is difficult to reproduce on a reorder. If the team selects a different fabric later, request a new color and alignment review rather than relying on the earlier sample.
Is 180 GSM better quality? Weight is one specification, not a quality score. The better option is the one that meets the agreed garment requirements.
Can a photograph settle the choice? No. Photographs show surface appearance, while handling, coverage and fit need a sample.

Compare the actual printed swatches with your team’s preferred fit and appearance. InkSportPro’s three listed jersey fabrics are 100% polyester. This jersey selection does not establish the fabric specification of the optional white pants; request that separately.
